The industry of sporting goods and tools is always
searching for innovative materials able to deliver better performances and
higher safety both for professional athletes and amateurs.
Kevlar, composites, mylar, glass fibers, carbon, goretex®
are some of the materials that completely changed the sport gear world. Bikes,
motor bikes, safety helmets, sport cars, sky, snowboards, windsurfs, boats,
suits, golf clubs, footwear and many more articles are now realised with these
materials and we can expect further developments of new materials and new
applications for existing ones in the next years. All this contributes to the
outstanding performances of today's professional athletes, while amateurs can
face the most compelling challenges with safety and comfort.
Companies producing these articles are now forced to
evaluate the cutting machines not only looking at existing materials, but also
considering how their production might evolve in the next years and forecasting
which materials will be used.
For these reasons cutting machines must be powerful,
flexible, reliable and constantly updated to grant support to today's and
tomorrow's materials.
One of the winning features of Atom cutting systems is
their versatility and flexibility: all the machines are designed to cut a huge
number of materials and with future needs in mind. That's why Atom is a safe
investment that allows the manufacturer to work even with the most complex
materials feeling confident that you will be using the same machines for years,
despite materials evolution.
This is especially important in the Sporting goods
industry, because it grants a good degree of protection to the investments made
in the cutting systems.
Most Atom machines can be used in the sport gear industry,
although not all the machines can be advisable to cut each kind of material.
Besides the following rough guidelines please feel free to ask to Atom support
team which machines could better handle your job. If needed, you can as well
submit us some material and shapes samples for a free cutting test that can help
you in understanding the potential of our products.
Oscillating knife cutting tables:
precision, versatility and low operating costs make these systems especially
suitable to cut a wide range of materials. They are the perfect solution to
quickly economically produce prototypes and samples. The dieless cutting
technology eliminates all the die-related costs and make the production of
small-medium quantity much more convenient.
The nesting can be either manual (assisted by layout
projection on the material), automatic or mixed. At any time it is possible to
seamlessly switch the operating mode. Some models can cut a material while on a
different area of the table the operator unloads the previous parts and prepare
the next layout. This allows a great time saving and a better utilisation of
machine and operator time.
The main differences among the different model is the
table slope (flat or inclined), the accessories available (such as camera and
projector) and of course the cutting surface dimension.
Waterjet cutting machines:
they are fast, precise and flexible, often are used to cut Mylar and material of
considerable thickness.
Mobile beam presses: very
powerful and able to cut huge shapes and to use multiple-parts dies. They can be
equipped with automatic feeding systems suitable both for rolls and sheets. They
are typically used to cut production lots of remarkable quantities.
CNC presses: Big batches
are the ideal production scenario for these machines, load them with material,
set the production program and see your parts come in thousands. Our automatic
nesting is of great help to save material and to estimate production time and
cost. We know that they find a wide usage in producing the internal parts of
safety helmets.
Swing arm and movable trolley presses:
good productivity with limited investments. They can be conveniently used for
small production batches.
Atom proposes a powerful automatic nesting system together
with its world-renowned cutting machines.
The experience cumulated over several years tells us that
a single nesting "good for everyone" is always prone to compromises in some
features so that it might work for everyone, but actually it is hard to have it
work well for everyone.
For this reason Atom developed several nesting strategies
optimised to deal with specific materials and production requirements. On this
way we can grant to our customers the maximum yield and the maximum respect of
production needs. Nesting can take into account the cutting technology too in
order to minimise the cutting time keeping the material usage high.
Cutting tables can be equipped with a special nesting
system that can operate both manually (projector assisted), allowing the
operator to place shapes exactly where he wants them and automatically. At any
time it is possible to switch between modes.
Atom however is not just technical excellence, we take
care of the needs of a modern organisation, dealing with subcontractors,
different data formats, remote production monitoring needs and so on. That's why
we propose CUTWEB: an innovative solution that lets you manage automatic nesting
and cutting from any Internet-connected PC using just your web browser. Using
CUTWEB you can access to our web-based nesting service in pay-per-use mode to
have your jobs nested quickly and always using the latest versions of our
software.
Cutweb can greatly help you to coordinate your
subcontractors, seamlessly exchanging data and offers new way to organise your
job. You can read more about Atom nesting software on this page, for a
presentation of CUTWEB on-line nesting service see here.
