In the latest years expanded foams, especially
polyethylene are gaining importance in the industry of packaging, above all as
far as electronics products (both industrial and consumer) are involved. They have an excellent resistance, low impact on the
environment and are easily modelled, therefore they are the ideal choice to for
the packaging fabricator.
The low cost of the typical parts used in this industry
and the high variety of shapes make extremely important to cut quickly,
efficiently, keeping productivity high and manufacturing cost low. For these
reasons Atom suggests to handle these jobs with moving beam presses or CNC
presses, in some cases traditional presses can be used.
Moving beam presses: they
are especially useful when cutting using big dies or multiple-shaped dies, in
this case their throughput is unbeatable. This makes these machines able to handle both the cutting
of the cardboard boxes and of the internal packaging cut from expanded
polyethylene.
CNC presses: the highest
power ones (the 40 and 50 tons models) are the most suitable to achieve high
throughput and low cutting costs. They can handle automatically the job with
little operator assistance; the automatic nesting can greatly help in saving
material costs. The high degree of automation allows you to make precise
estimations of cutting costs and times.
Traditional presses: the
most common choice when dealing with a few different shapes to be produced
regularly. For some materials they are the choice that minimizes the cutting
cost with a reasonable investment.
