In the furniture industry, there has been increased
competition especially from Eastern countries. This has forced Western companies
to increase the quality of their products and to improve the research for new
design solutions. This competition has also increased the need for flexibility
since production batches become smaller and smaller, and cost control becomes
more and more important.
For these reasons cutting departments are abandoning
traditional die-based cutting systems turning to dieless cutting systems, to
take advantage of their flexibility, efficiency and speed allow higher cost and
production time control.
Atom produces several solutions eligible for the cutting
in this industry, among them we suggest:
Oscillating knife cutting tables:
they are precise, versatile have low operating costs. For these reasons
knife-cutting are especially suitable to cut a wide range of materials used in
the furniture industry. They are the perfect solution to quickly economically
produce prototypes and samples. The dieless cutting technology eliminates all
the die-related costs and makes the production of small-medium quantity much
more convenient. The nesting can be either manual (assisted by layout projection
on the material), automatic or mixed. In each moment it is possible to
seamlessly switch the operating mode. Some models can cut a material while on a
different area of the table the operator unloads the previous parts and prepare
the next layout. This allows a great time saving and a better utilisation of
machine and operator time.
Atom produces some models designed with the needs of
furniture-making in mind.
-
model 30180, (cutting surface of 305 by 180 cm), it
can cut either half bovine hides or full bovine hides operating in two steps;
-
model 61260,
its huge surface measuring 610 by 260 cm allows it to host 2 full bovine hides.
It is thus possible to, unload cut parts, position a new hide and prepare
nesting in a position while the machine is cutting another hide.
Waterjet cutting systems:
speed, precision and reliability are the winning points of this line. They are
used mostly to cut synthetics materials and expanded foams, especially of high
thickness.
Moving beam presses: they
are especially useful when cutting using big dies or multiple - shape dies, in
this case their throughput is unbeatable. They can be equipped with automatic
feeding systems suitable for sheets and rolls. In the automotive industry they
are widely used to cut carpets.
CNC beam presses: their
ideal scenario of usage involves high cutting volumes, the high speed and
reliability allows to achieve high quantities of cut pieces in short times. The
automatic nesting procedures can optimise the layouts to be cut, allowing
materials savings and precise cost and cutting time estimates. They are used
above all for synthetic materials.
Swing arm and movable trolley presses:
good productivity with limited investments. They can be conveniently used for
small production batches.
Our cutting machines can cut quickly and with high
precision a wide range of materials commonly used in furniture-making, such as
wood for inlays, hides, leather, synthetic leather, cushion materials (such as
OCV and polyurethanes). To cut wood inlays we strongly recommend
oscillating-knife cutting tables.
Atom can ship the cutting machines with an automatic
nesting software suite that can be used in several different ways:
-
interactive nesting on the cutting table;
-
off-line nesting, that is calculated before the
material is deployed on the cutting table;
-
Internet-based nesting: Atom is proud to propose
this solution to his customers. This innovative system allows the user to manage
and monitor the nesting and cutting process from any web-connected PC, using
just the browser it is possible to access to all the functions commonly offered
by traditional nesting suites. An additional benefit of this model is that the
customer is charged on pay-per-use basis so there are no initial investment in
software licenses and data is available everywhere there is an Internet
connection, of course protected by a reliable system of passwords and access
rights.
Automatic nesting allows savings of time and materials,
higher automation in cutting orders management and can be used even by
non-specialised operators. The nesting results are not operator-dependant any
more, therefore the workforce can be organised in a more flexible way.
We do not believe in the "one size fits all" philosophy as
far as nesting is concerned, so our algorithms are optimised accordingly with
the needs of different industries and material kinds.
