Tanged graphite is often used in gaskets manufacturing when
high resistance to mechanical stress and high temperatures are a must.
It is a complex material as regards cutting since it is composed by layers of
graphite and a steel reinforcement sheet. These materials have different
properties and cutting together the fragile graphite and the hard steel can be
challenging.
Atom developed all the traditional solutions to cut this material, in particular
we are proud of the performances granted by our oscillating knife cutting
tables. As far as we know it is the best knife-based solution on the market as
regards tanged graphite. Our machines can cut any kind and thickness of this
material with one or more layers of steel reinforcement at very high speed.
In any case you can get optimised layouts using our automatic nesting software,
supporting several optimisation features like "shape in shape" nesting that can
dramatically improve yield when preparing layout containing gaskets of different
sizes.
The machines most suitable to cut tanged graphite are:
Oscillating-knife cutting tables: these machines are
usually suggested for cutting of prototypes, sample parts and small and medium
batches, however the amazing cutting speed that our cutting tables can grant
makes them a good choice even for the production of high quantities of parts.
This cutting technology can easily use scrapes of previous cut and have them
automatically nested for further material savings.
Moving beam presses: they are especially useful when
cutting using big dies or multiple - shape dies, in this case their throughput
is unbeatable. They can be equipped with automatic feeding systems suitable for
sheets and rolls.
Swing arm and movable trolley presses: good
productivity with limited investments. They can be conveniently used for small
production batches.
