Leather is one of the most ancient materials used by mankind
to manufacture dressing and everyday objects.
For centuries the tanning technology constantly evolved, making hides and
leather more and more versatile, opening new original and creative usage
scenario, and making the tanning of more and more skins kinds possible,
including even fish skins.
Nowadays leather is used to create an incredible variety of
objects, for example garments and dressing accessories, footwear, bags, cases,
diaries, photo albums, sport gear, car interiors, furniture parts and an almost
infinite variety of items to whom leather gives prestige and style.
Atom has been producing leather-related machines since its
foundation about 60 years ago.
Most Atom cutting systems can be used to cut leather, however
some systems can be more advisable than others in different situations. We
invite you to ask for advice at our support staff that can help you in choosing
the cutting machine that works best for you. However here are some rough
guidelines in choosing cutting machines.
Oscillating knife cutting tables: They eliminate the
need to use dies, therefore they are very flexible and suitable to cut samples
and prototype parts. However our experience collected thanks to hundred of
installation in companies producing leathergoods, footwear, car interiors and
furniture tells us that they can be used to cut normal production runs too,
allowing considerable material and workforce savings.
Atom produces some models designed with the needs of car
upholstery- and furniture-making in mind.

model 30180, (cutting surface of 305 by 180 cm), it can cut
either half bovine hides or full bovine hides operating in two steps;

model 61260, its huge surface measuring 610 by 260 cm
allows it to host 2 full bovine hides. It is thus possible to, unload cut
parts, position a new hide and prepare nesting in a position while the machine
is cutting another hide.
Some companies who realise car interior modifications use
these machines with full satisfaction, since they can meet customer requirements
quickly and at competitive prices.
For footwear and leathergoods industry our inclined-surface
cutting tables provide good performance combined with simpler usage for that
kind of production.
Waterjet cutting systems: speed, precision and
flexibility are the winning points of these machines.
Moving beam presses: they are especially useful when
cutting using big dies or multiple dies at once, in this case their throughput
is very high.
Swing arm and movable trolley presses: good
productivity with limited investments. They can be conveniently used for small
production batches.
Folding machines: very fast and precise, they are the

different automation degrees.
Splitting machines: precision, reliability and
durability are the keywords that drive the project and the manufacturing of
these machines. Every detail is fine tuned to make the job faster and more
precise.
Skiving machines: From the simplest to the richest
ones (computer-controlled) they have extremely high operating speeds, they are
very precise, reliable and include all the know-how of tens of years of
experience.
Defects acquisition systems: Atom's Intelliview is the
solution for "offline" acquisition of hides contour and defects, so that this
step can be processed at any time before cutting and nesting. Some cutting
tables include a digital camera and a projector to carry out this step "online",
that is just before nesting and cutting.
The software that powers the Intelliview system can
automatically recognize the contour of the materials, the operator can then mark
quickly and easily holes and defects, marking of quality areas is supported as
well.
